Maltoria

Astrographic entry: Maltoria
Maltoria is defined by tropical isthmus just north of the planet's equator. The region is marked by lush forests and jungles that are home to most of the planet's life, sentient and nonsentient alike. Maltoria's capital city, Nova Arcadius, and its sprawling metropolitan area is the most densely populated zone, although the region's other cities are also quickly growing. Rhydonium refining plants and military installations make up the backbone of the region's economy, and tourism agencies are beginning to blossom along the unspoiled banks of Maltoria's two seas.

West of the isthmus, the middle continent flares out into a wide delta. Swamps and rivers give way to coastal jungles in the southern region, and the northern region is dotted with large farms and ranches that, along with fisheries on the coast, provide most of the planet's food. The southern swamps and jungles are rich with biodiversity. It is estimated that sixty percent of its plant and animal life have yet to be cataloged! New species are discovered each year thanks to the growth of the logging industry.

Half of all the fish consumed on Maltoria are harvested from the Southern Sea by fishing crews hailing from the southern polar tundra. The southernmost continent is famous for its Burra fisheries, some of which are the largest in the sector. The sparsely populated Maltoria Bush east of the southern ice shelf is home to a large population of D'oemir Bears, which outnumber sentients there twenty to one. The northern ice shelf is even less populated, with much of its territory designated a wilderness preserve.

Maltorian I

Astrographic entry: Maltorian I
The most conspicuous feature on the surface of Maltorian I is the massive volcanic fissure that dominates the planet's central latitudes. Known locally as the Scarlet Sea, this string of geothermal vents loads the upper atmosphere with a layer of fine volcanic silt which obstructs the sunlight and contributes to freezing temperatures at the ground level.

The largest continents, in the northern and southern hemispheres, are buried deep beneath thick glacial flows. However, in the equatorial region, an archipelago rises above the Scarlet Sea where the terrain is more habitable. Anargoloth Island is the center of planetary traffic and has evolved over the centuries into a sprawling megalopolis that began in Colony Prime and includes the merchant district of Jahari. Just west of Anargoloth lies Mount Wuji, a moderately active volcano that rises 12,962 feet above sea level.

The colonial population of Maltorian I are an adventurous lot. Hunting and ice-fishing are popular activities and the planet hosts a community of vent-racing enthusiasts who compete annually at the time of the blossoming of the local Stoneflowers.

Maltorian IV

Astrographic entry: Maltorian IV
Maltorian IV is the fourth planet in the system. It is a massive blue gas giant, composed of a myraid of different gasses. It supports little natural life, as it large methane clouds render the atmosphere caustic and inhospitable to all but he hardiest microorganisms.Geologists have found the planet's core to be moderatly unstable, but this hasn't stopped it from becoming the second most populous planet in the sytem due to the vast array of floating cities in its upper atmosphere. The abundance of valuable gas resources and the relative wealth of its citizens have made the planet a popular target for pirates and criminal groups. As such, much of the planet is under militry control, and the Tresarian armed forces are a common sight in every region.

Maltorian III

Astrographic entry: Maltorian III
Maltorian III is a vast planet without landmass as its surface is spanned by one massive ocean. During the Old Republic, an alien species inhabited underwater cities on this planet, but the cities were abandoned when the Empire came to power. For some time, the Rebel Alliance used these cities as supply depots, but all of the cities were destroyed when an Imperial fleet came into orbit. Now, the water world is home to an array of exotic fish, and legions of fishermen and exotic fish collectors come to Maltorian III in search of new species. Otherwise, the planet is quite unremarkable.
