Operation Windy Cadence is the code name used to refer to the conflict that took place between the Tresarian Navy and the Death Watch Bloodguard between Year 18 Day 17 and Day 232. Death Watch forces under the command of Peter Max attacked the Tresarian Navy as it was preparing to withdraw from Serroco after participating in a training exercise with the Imperial Army's 2nd and 6th Brigades. The Tresarian Navy was initially caught off guard by the attack, but rallied to push back The Death Watch and its allies, inflicting heavy losses in subsequent days of the battle. On Day 232, after over two weeks of intermittent fighting, Peter Max conceded defeat and withdrew from Serroco.

Background

Prior to the battle, the Tresarian Navy participated in a training exercise with the Imperial Army 2nd and 6th Brigades from Day 186 to Day 189. The training exercise was cut short due to unanticipated logistical concerns, and the Imperial Army departed Serroco shortly afterward. At the command of Fleet Admiral Kevin Wolff, the Tresarian Navy remained on Serroco to continue practicing combat maneuvers in Serroco's wilderness.

Battle

Initial Attack

Operation Windy Cadence began on Day 217 when a squad of Battle Droids under the command of Okrim Rimdor was attacked by K-4 Security Droids led by Lucas Dragomir. Dragomir destroyed twelve Battle Droids, losing forty-eight K-4s in the process, before withdrawing. It's speculated that Death Watch command did not intend for Dragomir to attack at that time, since he was accompanied by only K-4s and his attack was unsupported by other Death Watch officers. The use of K-4s as opposed to other, better equipped, troops might indicate that Dragomir had been sent to scout out Tresarian forces while remaining relatively inconspicuous by masquerading as a security force hired by the local government or private companies. Regardless of whether the attack had been planned beforehand, it caused enough confusion to allow Death Watch ships to land within the city.

Tresarian Counterattack

Several hours after the attack, Tresarian forces pushed back against the newly landed Death Watch troops and, despite taking comparatively heavy casualties, were able to control several key intersections within the city. In the aftermath of this fighting, Peter Max broadcasted a message to Death Watch members across the galaxy, lauding The Death Watch's apparent victory based on favorable casualty ratios.

First Lull in the Action

Between Day 218 and Day 220, there were only sporadic minor skirmishes between Tresarian and Death Watch troops. Death Watch forces probed Tresarian defenses several times, and at one point were able to seriously wound an isolated Tresarian officer.

First Death Watch Offensive

On Day 221, The Death Watch launched its largest attack of the battle, assaulting the Tresarian defenses at multiple points. However, they were unprepared for the speed and efficiency of the Tresarian response. Under the command of Kevin Wolff and Xyler Zero, Tresarian officers deployed several hundred Battle Droids to repel the Death Watch attacks. Even as Death Watch troops attempted to overcome Tresarian fortifications, Wolff and Zero positioned snipers in surrounding buildings and directed Tresarian officers with squads of droids to surround and inflict heavy casualties upon the attacking forces.

Second Lull in the Action

Between Day 222 and Day 229 there was a second lull in the action. Death Watch troops again occasionally probed Tresarian defenses, but took heavier losses and inflicted less damage as the Tresarian defenders became more adept at responding quickly to attacks.

Second Death Watch Offensive

On Day 230 and Day 231, Death Watch forces, accompanied by some minor reinforcements from their ally The Zann Consortium, attempted one final assault. Initially, their attack severely wounded a Tresarian officer who had been attempting to scout out the positions of Death Watch troops, however the fighting alerted nearby Tresarians who were able to rescue him. As in the previous offensive, Tresarian troops deployed Battle Droids to surround and defeat attacking squads.

Stormtrooper Rescue

During the fighting on Day 230, Peter Max revealed that Death Watch was holding captive six of the Galactic Empire's stormtroopers. Max attempted to taunt the Tresarian Navy using these captives, and left them in the open behind Death Watch lines. However, as Death Watch troops were pushed back over the course of the day, an opportunity opened for a rescue to be staged. In the waning hours of Day 230, Admiral Xyler Zero led a team of Tresarian commandos to free the stormtroopers and bring them to safety.

Retreat

After Day 230, Zann Consortium troops withdrew from Serroco in order to reinforce a conflict the Consortium was embroiled with elsewhere in the galaxy. Death Watch troops continued fighting for an additional day as they were pushed to the outskirts of the city by Tresarian forces. On Day 232, Peter Max conceded defeat and ordered the Death Watch to withdraw.

Aftermath

Cleanup

Tresarian troops remained on Serroco for a few weeks after the battle's conclusion in order to assist locals in clearing debris and beginning repairs to the city. Additionally, the Death Watch left behind many security and tactical droids which posed a threat to the general population of Serroco and needed to be disabled or destroyed.

Mandalorian Attack

On Day 238, a Mandalorian identified as Anon Drekk attempted to attack Fleet Admiral Wolff and was quickly driven off by nearby Tresarian soldiers. Drekk later alleged that he was merely curious about seeing Tresario's military capabilities firsthand after hearing reports of the Death Watch's defeat.

Legacy

Galactic Response

The Death Watch's reputation as competent warriors was severely damaged by their public acknowledgement of the lopsided defeat and subsequent retreat from Serroco.
