Operation Cascading Fortune is the code name that refers to the deployment of Tresarian troops to aid the Faerytail Family and Galactic Empire against the Archduchy of Tolonda and New Republic during the Second Battle of Krmar II. Tresarian forces suffered no casualties in the conflict and were major factors in the exchanges that led to the deaths of Margrave Adin Cole and Lieutenant Colonel Freddie Hawkmoon.

Battle
Arrival at Krmar II
Tresarian troops began arriving on Krmar II during the lull in Tolondan action following the capture of Duke Corey Vildras by King Simkin Dragoneel [2]. This period of downtime was not put to waste, and Tresarian officers set about familiarizing themselves with the situation and with their counterparts from the Faerytail Family and the Galactic Empire. During the few weeks that followed, Tolondan forces slowly recovered and returned to stirring up minor skirmishes across Krmar II, but these conflicts remained at a relatively low level of intensity and frequency.
Tolondan Tactical Errors
On Day 89, conducting what was expected to be just another routine patrol near one of Tolonda's encampments in the northern hemisphere of Krmar II, Tresarian scouts reported sightings of Margrave Adin Cole, a member of Tolonda’s Royal Council, accompanied by a carelessly small escort of Tolondan troops. Nearby Tresarian forces under the command of Fleet Admiral Fooj Iwajo responded quickly, surrounding the Margrave and pressing the attack before any Tolondan reinforcements could arrive [3]. In the ensuing firefight, Cole and his retinue were all fatally wounded or killed. A few days later, Faerytail troops captured and executed and officer in the Tolondan Royal Corsairs named Vellan Mun-Riliin, prompting a second lull in the conflict as Tolondan commanders reevaluated their tactics after suffering repeated significant losses on the battlefield in rapid succession [3]. During this second delay in the action, additional Tresarian, Galactic Empire, and New Republic forces arrived at Krmar II.
New Republic Assistance
As the bulk of the New Republic's and Galactic Empire's troops reached Krmar II, the intensity of the conflict increased dramatically. While nominally under the direction of Tolondan officers, the forces sent by the New Republic took a significantly more aggressive approach, and suffered a steady stream of heavy losses as a result. The battle continued in this fashion for several weeks, and while New Republic and Tolondan forces managed to construct various fortifications across Krmar II, they remained unable to mount successful defenses against constant Imperial Union raids which invariably ended in the death or capture of nearly all soldiers stationed in defense of the forts.
New Republic Retreat
As the battle wore on, Imperial Union commanders began theorizing that the New Republic might eventually withdraw its support due to flagging morale if the current level of IU success in suppressing Tolondan and New Republic operations could be maintained. Initial projections from IU analysts on the timeframe of the conflict predicted it would last around a month at most, so as it approached the two month mark it seemed within the realm of possibility that the New Republic might exhaust the resources it allocated for the operation and decide to withdraw rather than commit additional troops and materiel to likely be destroyed. This theory was proved accurate when, following the death of Lieutenant Colonel Freddie Hawkmoon at the hands of Captain Ro-nin Linj, the New Republic made the decision to retreat from Krmar II. Without support from their ally, Tolonda was unable to maintain an offensive and was forced to retreat as well.
Legacy
Galactic Response
Given the nature of the Imperial Union victory at Krmar II, the Second Battle of Krmar II is largely viewed by the galaxy as a humiliating failure by the Archduchy of Tolonda. At the outset, nearly all observers predicted a victory by Tolonda, especially in light of the support given to them by the New Republic. Consequently, when they suffered massive casualties and were forced to retreat, their reputation and credibility suffered significantly in the eyes of many sentients. In contrast, the New Republic emerged from the public relations fiasco virtually unscathed, as their losses were attributed to the poor leadership of Corey Vildras and Arthur Von Kaldreon.
